Leipzig Bach Fest 2020

The 2020 Bachfest Leipzig had to be cancelled because of the COVID 19 pandemic. On four days, that would have been the starting and closing weekends, the artistic director of the Bachfest, Prof. Dr. Michael Maul, together with the Leipzig Bach churches and with sponsors, invites you to a concert marathon. Mainly freelance artists will present a varied, innovative and interactive programme, that starts every day (apart from day 1) at 4.00 pm and will be streamed all over the world live from St. Thomas’ and St. Nicholas’ Church. The "Bach Marathon" will reach its peak in the performance of a never before heard version of the Mass in B minor that will dissolve borders between artists and audience.

Programme
Overview

J. S. Bach: peace be with thee, BWV 158, songs and arias from Schemelli's hymn book and cantatas as well as chamber music by J. S. Bach

Venue Info

Kupfersaal - Leipzig
Location   Kupfergasse 2

The Kupfersaal is a venue in the center of Leipzig. The hall is known for the variety of poetry slams, comedy shows, podcasts and singer songwriting events that take place here on a regular basis. The Leipzig Philharmonic has found a solid venue for classical music, crossover projects and tribute shows.

The hall

The hall was built in 1912/13 and is located in the "Dresdner Hof", a building complex with the public passage in the city center of Leipzig. The building was designed according to the plans of the architect Alfred Stentzler as a trade fair center for 500 exhibitors.
Since its opening in 1914, the hall in Kupfergasse 2 has been managed as a beer, concert, and dining restaurant under the name "Naumann-Bräu" with 1,000 seats. Later, the hall was known mainly among students as Mensa and FDJ Youth Club "Kalinin". The cabaret Academixer found in the historic hall an interim venue known under the name "lamp shop".
Now, up to 560 guests can enjoy a unique program of diverse classical music and urban live literature - in the new Copper Hall.
The copper hall is barrier-free for wheelchair users.
