Programme
Overview

Music from the films "Once Upon a Time in the West", "Cinema Paradiso", "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly", "A Fistful of Dollars", "The Mission", "My Name is Nobody", " The Hateful 8", "Once upon a Time in America", "The Untouchables" and many more.

A handful of notes and never-ending suspense: when Charles Bronson played a few notes on the harmonica in the legendary Western "Once Upon a Time in the West", this musical motif alone created high tension. It was composed by Ennio Morricone (1928-2020): his soundtrack from 1968 would have been enough to make him immortal. But this was only one of over 500 scores that Morricone wrote. With his music, the Italian maestro gave countless film classics the brilliant final touch, including “A Fistful of Dollars”, “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”, “My Name is Nobody”, “Cinema Paradiso”, “Once upon a Time in America" and "The Untouchables".

In 2007 he was awarded an honorary Oscar for this great life's work. In 2016 he went one better: At the age of 87 he won the Oscar for the music for Quentin Tarantino's western "The Hateful 8". All these grandiose, monumental works and unforgettable melodies can be experienced at the gala film concert "The Sound of Ennio Morricone" - in a particularly impressive way with a large orchestra, choir and vocal soloists.

The whole versatility of the Italian composer becomes clear: He enriched love scenes with his music just as congenially as duels in spaghetti westerns. Morricone used many instruments that are rarely heard in soundtracks. At this film concert they will all be played live: pan flute, Jew's harp, ocarina - and of course the harmonica.
