Overview

"I have admired Anna Vinnitskaya for many years as an amazingly confident interpreter of the most demanding piano concertos," admits Igor Levit. "I am no less enthusiastic about her technically superb and at the same time so imaginative approach to pianistic visionaries such as Chopin, Scriabin or Ravel, who decisively shaped the idea of a genuinely virtuosic piano style." The pianist, who was born on the Russian Black Sea coast in 1983 and has been a professor at the Hamburg Music Academy since 2009, delighted audiences at the Lucerne Festival in 2021 with Prokofiev's First Piano Concerto, which she performed with the Berlin Philharmonic. Levit has now invited her for a solo recital. And here, with César Franck's Prélude, fugue et variation, originally composed for the organ, Vinnitskaya proves that she also understands the musical logic and architecture. With Chopin and Scriabin she is in demand as a poet, but with Maurice Ravel's La Valse she reaches the peak of virtuosity: the piano version, which in addition to the parts for both hands sometimes even has a third staff, was long considered unplayable.
