Festival

Lucerne Piano Festival 2023

The Lucerne Festival 2023 will take place in Lucerne, Switzerland in the spring of 2023 from 18 to 21 May. This will be a three-day Piano Festival curated by the pianist Igor Levit. The KKL Luzern, designed by Jean Nouvel and equally renowned for its acoustics and architecture, is Lucerne Festival’s central venue.

Programme
Overview

Igor Levit and his master student Mert Yalniz play classical works, including Robert Schumann's Forest Scenes and Ludwig van Beethoven's Sonata Appassionata. Johanna Summer and Fred Hersch respond with improvisations. At the end they make music together: Let yourself be surprised!

The piano festival closes with a “pianistic class reunion”. Igor Levit, Fred Hersch and Johanna Summer appear together, and Mert Yalniz joins them as fourth in the group. Born in Lower Saxony in 2003, he is a master student of Levit and is currently completing his piano class at the Hanover Music Academy, but he also composes. At the "Finale for Four" he will not only play Beethoven's heroic sonata appassionata, but also set an example as a creative artist. Igor Levit himself performs Schumann's highly romantic forest scenes. Above all, however, the four will take turns on stage in an entertaining relay: "We organize small competitions like those Johann Sebastian Bach once had to compete against his competitors on the organ and like they're still known today as 'battles' in jazz or in the Rap are popular," explains Levit. "In the end, however, it's all about harmonious interaction: we connect in multi-handed constellations and enjoy the harmonious coming together of people who are used to creating the atmosphere in the hall all by themselves. I'm sure it will not only be great fun for us musicians."

The showpiece of the KKL Luzern is its renowned Concert Hall with 1,898 seats and acoustics that provide incredible sound and inspire the world’s leading conductors, orchestras and soloists to perform at their best.

Conventions
The outstanding Concert Hall with its multifunctional usage, is also an exciting possibility for conventions. A wide screen is hidden above the stage and may be lowered for awards, product presentations and other events. Interpreting booths and excellent infrastructure are at hand for a most memorable convention or meeting or live television broadcast.

Two water canals frame the Lucerne Hall, a venue that is also unique in its adaptability and convertible for 200 up to 1,800 guests.
