Kabarett Simpl (Vienna, Austria)
Kabarett Simpl
Today's "Kabarett Simpl" was founded in 1912 as the "Bierkabaret Simplicissimus". Inextricably linked with this are the names of Fritz Grünbaum (from 1914) and Karl Farkas, who came to Simpl in 1921 and took over its management in 1950. Maxi Böhm, Ernst Waldbrunn, Cissy Kraner and Hugo Wiener played under the direction of Karl Farkas.
In 2019, the Bulli got a new old man: After more than 15 years, Michael Niavarani returned to the Simpl cabaret as artistic director. He took over the oldest continuously recorded cabaret in the world. Michael Niavarani said personally: “When I go down the stairs in the Wollzeile, it feels a bit like I'm visiting my parents.
Taking care of the simplicity again, writing new cabaret texts for the “megalomaniac pastry board” (Karl Farkas) is like coming home. And we all know how terrible it is to have to visit your parents and that an afternoon like this can be a lot of work. It's the same with me: I don't have to dig up the vegetable patch, but I'm allowed to write a new Simpl review and direct it for the first time.
