Programme
Overview
Join VOCES8 and its Foundation Choir for a luminous choral odyssey, exploring prayer from the Renaissance to the present day. Experience the radiant clarity of Bach’s Jesu meine Freude, soar with Victoria’s Regina caeli and feel the stirring intensity of MacMillan’s Miserere.Under Barnaby Smith’s direction, VOCES8 and its Foundation Choir present an evening of transcendent a cappella music, weaving a devotional tapestry from the Renaissance’s shimmering polyphony to the crystal clarity of contemporary reflections. The program centres on Bach’s emotionally charged motet Jesu meine Freude, flanked by luminous masterpieces by Palestrina, Rheinberger and Sheppard, and complemented by meditative compositions by Arvo Pärt, Kerensa Briggs and Paul Smith. Victoria’s Regina caeli lifts the spirit with its jubilant exultation, while James MacMillan’s Miserere delivers a stirring, cathartic finale. Immerse yourself in this radiant journey of prayer and praise, as voices unite in serene harmony.
