Gstaad Menuhin Festival 2026

The Gstaad Menuhin Festival 2026 marks a historic milestone as it celebrates its 70th anniversary, opening a new chapter under the artistic leadership of violinist and conductor Daniel Hope. From 16 July to 5 September 2026, the idyllic villages, churches, and mountain landscapes of the Swiss Saanenland once again become the setting for one of Europe’s most distinctive classical music festivals, where artistic excellence meets the tranquility of the Alps.

Programme
Alma Mahler: Laue Sommernacht
Alma Mahler: Ich wandle unter Blumen
Alma Mahler: Die stille Stadt
Gustav Mahler: Rückert-Lieder
Gustav Mahler: Symphony no. 5 in C sharp minor
Overview

The Guardian didn‘t hesitate to call Thomas Hampson’s relationship with the music of Gustav Mahler “obsessive” – and indeed, since those first recordings in the 1980s under Leonard Bernstein, their names have been inseparable, almost like Maria Callas and Verdi.

On this remarkable evening, the new Professor and Director of the Vocal Academy invites Festival guests to experience this musical passion up close and in person – joined by Vasily Petrenko and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, that prestigious ensemble where Festival founder Yehudi Menuhin served as Principal Guest Conductor from 1959 to 1968.
