Rock am Ring festival is held, once a year, in start June.
The events are held in the race course Nürburgring near Nürburg which is located in East Germany.
The leading bands in Europe play metal Rock, Punk, Indie and Alternative Rock. This is the twin festival of “Rock im Park” festival that is held in Nuremberg in center Germany.
The artists who perform in “Rock am Ring” perform the day after in “Rock im Park” . Both festivals are known as huge events that attract enormous crowd of more than 150,000 celebrators.
About the Rock am ring
Rock am Ring is one of the largest rock festivals held annually in Germany on the first weekend of June.
There is a tradition of shouting the name Helga on Rock am Ring. As the story goes, several years ago, an unlucky visitor who lost his girlfriend named Helga in the crowd, ran around the whole night and shouted her name, waking up more than a hundred people. Since then, Rock am Ring has a tradition of screaming out loud the name Helga.
Rock am Ring was originally planned as a one-time festival on the Nürburgring celebrating the inauguration of a newer, shorter version of the race track in 1985, but due to its commercial success (with 75,000 audience members), it was decided to make the concert an annual event. However, after a dip in attendance for the 1988 event, the festival was put on hiatus for two years. In 1991, the festival returned with a new concept: as well as featuring well-known artists, event organizers present lesser known up-and-coming bands to the public.
