About

Fabio Maria Capitanucci in 1998, just 23 years old, won the contest of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto. Immediately after he won the selections for the Advanced Academy of the Teatro alla Scala, which he attended from 1999 to 2001. In 2002 he obtained the”Renato Bruson Award” in its first edition. He has since performed at many of the leading opera houses in the world, including the Teatro alla Scala, The Metropolitan Opera, the Florida Grand Opera, the Bayerische Staatsoper amongst many others.

In the 2012/2013 season Fabio Captianucci returned to the Teatro alla Scala as Marcello in La Bohéme, and performed as Belcore in l’Elisir d’Amore at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, amongst others. Engagements for the 2013/2014 season included his debut at the San Francisco Opera as Ford in Falstaffand a return to the Teatro alla Scala as Chorebe in Les Troyens amongst others. Performances for the 2014/2015 season include returning to the San Francisco Opera as Dandini in Cinderella as well as returning to the Metropolitan Opera in Lucia di Lammermoor, amongst others.

Since 1999 he’s regular guest in the season of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where he debuted Marcello in La Bohème, Cavalier Belfiore in Un giorno di regno, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Lescaut in Manon by Massenet, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte.

Simultaneously to his debut at La Scala, he also debuted in many other Italian, European and American theatres: lElisir d’amore as Belcore in Frankfurt, Il viaggio a Reims as Don Alvaro in Genoa, La Bohème in Genoa, Dresden, Madrid, Arena in Verona and Atlanta (USA), Le Nozze di Figaro as the Count in Turin, Dresden (new production) and Palermo as Figaro, Madama Butterfly as Sharpless in Dresden, Candide as Maximilian in Genoa, Roberto Devereux in Pamplona, Così fan tutte as William in Hamburg and Genoa, Falstaff as Ford and Cenerentola as Dandini in Dresden, Lucia di Lammermoor as Enrico in Marseille, Don Pasquale as Malatesta at the Florida Grand Opera in Miami and Genoa, La Cenerentola in Barcelona.

As part of the symphonic repertoire and has sung sacred oratorio La cena del Signore by L. Perosi and Carmina Burana by C. Orff.

Other recent engagements include: Madama Butterfly in Palermo, l’Elisir d’amore in Monaco (debut in the theatre) and Valencia, Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Berlin, Dresden, Budapest, Palermo, Munich and Hamburg, Le nozze di Figaro in Vienna, and Falstaff in Munich, The Puritans in Madrid, Seville and La Traviata in Vienna, La Bohème at the Metropolitan Opera (debut in the theatre), at La Scala and in Florence, Don PasqualeLucia di Lammermoor in Turin, Linda Chamounix and Madama Butterfly at the Liceu in Barcelona, Roberto Devereux in Marseille and Munich.

He recorded Madama Butterfly (CD) with EMI Classics under the direction of Antonio Pappano, Gina (Hubert) by F. Cilea (CD) for Bongiovanni, La Bohème (DVD) for Opus Art, La Cambiale di matrimonio (Slook) (CD) for Dynamic, I Medici (Poliziano) by R. Leoncavallo (CD) and Fedora (De Sirieux) for Deutsche Grammophon.
