About

The young soprano Elbenita Kajtazi, a native of Mitrovica, Kosovo, has performed in some of Europe’s most important opera houses.

In summer 2016, she made her Salzburg Festival debut as a member of the Young Singers Project, performing alongside Placido Domingo and the Munich Radio Orchestra as ‘Crobyle’ in Massenets “Thaïs”.
As of 2016/17 she became a member of the ensemble of the Aalto-Musiktheater Essen, including role debuts as ‘Barbarina’/”Le nozze di Figaro”, ‘Adina’/”L’elisir d’amore”, ‘Pamina’/”Magic Flute”, ‘Violetta’/”LaTraviata”, ‘Liu’/”Turandot”, ‘Gretel’/”Hänsel and Gretel”, ‘Musetta’/”La Bohème”. Recent highlights include her successful debut at the Semperoper Dresden as ‘Pamina’ as well as various concerts like Bach’s “Magnificat” at the Philharmonia Essen.

The two preceding seasons, Elbenita Kajtazi held a young artist fellowship with the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Of the numerous roles she performed on the stage of the Deutsche Oper, the most memorable include ‘Frasquita’/”Carmen”, ‘Gianetta’/”L’elisir d’amore”, ‘Papagena’/”Magic Flute”, ‘Annina’/”La Traviata”, ‘Anna’/”Nabucco”, ‘Shepherd’/”Tannhäuser”, ‘Bianca’/”La Rondine”, ‘Sandmännchen’ and ‘Taumännchen’/”Hänsel and Gretel”, ‘Voice from above’/”Don Carlo”, ‘Pamina’, ‘Chevrière’ and ‘Premier Pâtre’/”Dinorah”, ‘Frantik’ and ‘Grasshopper’/”Cunning little vixen”, ‘1 Elve’/”The Egyptian Helen”, ‘5. Maiden’/“Elektra“, ‚Contessa Ceprano’/“Rigoletto“.

She additionally appeared in concert performances, alongside the Berlin Philharmonic, taking part in Massenet’s “Werther”/’Kätchen’ and Meyerbeer’s “Dinorah”/’first shepherdess’.
In October 2015, Elbenita Kajtazi was heard as ‘Bianca’ with the Bayerische Rundfunk Orchester, performing in the Prinzregententheater Munich.
In autumn 2016 the artist sang concerts of ‘Pulcinella’ as well as ‘Musetta’/”Scènes de la vie de bohème” both at the Grand Théâtre de Genève.

A strong relationship to the Deutsche Oper Berlin will bring her back for various guest-engagements also in the future. As of 2018/19 Elbenita Kajtazi will join the ensemble of the Hamburg State Opera for two years. An guest engagement will lead her also as ‘Sophie’/”The Knight of the Rose” to the opera of Santiago de Chile.

After winning the first prize in the Riccardo Zandonai Competition, Elbenita was awarded a contract with the Daegu Opera in South Corea, where she performed in November 2015 and concerts in Sao Paolo, Brazil at the Sao Pedro Opera in September 2017. She was also awarded the first prize in the Spiros Argiris Sarzana Festival competition in Italy, 2014.

Elbenita is a graduate of the University of Prishtina, and was awarded her first contract with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Kosovo in 2009, singing many concerts throughout the season. She appears alongside the orchestra as a frequent guest and is looking forward to returning there to sing Beethoven’s “C major Mass” in November 2016.
