Don Camilo Cabaret

This mythical place of the Parisian night, located in the heart of Saint Germain des Prés is, still today, one of the most famous cabarets in the capital. In a magical setting of shards of mirrors that, for more than 60 years, the art of laughter and gastronomy have been together.

It is located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés quartier.

Created in 1953 at the instigation of Jean Vergnes, an adventurer who loved artists as much as good food, this miniature music-hall very quickly became one of the great gatherings of festive and gourmet Paris. A few months after its opening, all that the capital had of singers, impersonators, storytellers, comedians and songwriters came to jostle on its stage. A tiny tray, but backed by a room that can accommodate up to one hundred and eighty guests! For twenty years – few remember – the walls were the red color of theater curtains. Until one day in 1984, the sculptor César proposed that they be covered with shards of mirrors. This decor has become mythical. It is now inseparable from Don Camilo.

It is impossible to print the list of all the acrobats, already famous, or in the making, who have performed at the Don Camilo since its creation. They are more than five hundred. From Jean Sablon to Léo Ferré, from Serge Gainsbourg to Serge Reggiani, from Thierry le Luron to Laurent Gerra, from Barbara to Moustaki, from Jean Amadou to Pierre Douglas, in more than sixty years, the greatest have been there.

Today, the new headliners of the House are called, among others, Yann Jamet (imitator), Laurent Guzzi (comedian), Mathieu (singer) and Geneviève Morissette (singer), Jimmy Delp (magician-ventriloquist) or Tony Saint-Laurent, comedian discovered in the adjoining room of the Saint-Germain Comedy bar. Presented by Sylvain Collaro, all these artists are undoubtedly the stars of tomorrow.

At the same time, on the ground floor of 10 rue des Saints Pères, a new place of humour, conviviality and discovery has opened. The "Saint-Germain Comedy bar" welcomes, in a 50-seat room, the first steps on stage of young artists who want to make it their profession.
