French video designer Denis Guéguin makes his Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season on From the House of the Dead.
Guéguin grew up in Paris and studied film and theatre design at the Sorbonne. Since 2003 he has worked regularly with Krzyzstof Warlikowski, designing videos for all of his theatre and opera productions. Highlights of his other work include Copi, un Portrait (with staging by Marcial Di Fonzo Bo, 2009), Die sieben Todsünden with Barbara Creutz at Festival Les Nuits d'été (2011), a staged recital with videos of Brahms's Liebeslieder Walzer at La Monnaie, Brussels (2008), Pawel Kykietyn's Symfonia III with Polish Radio (2011) and the staged video recital Secret Theatres for La Nuit Blanche, Brussels.
Guéguin's independent videos are shown at international film festivals, and have won awards from Canal+ France and the Queer Palm Festival in Cannes among others. He is the author of a book of interviews and photographs about his work with Warlikowski - Video art in opera - Krzysztof Warlikowski's productions - published by Altenatives Théâtrales.
