Overview

The opera buffa, firstly performed in 1786, is often described as operatic farce and depicts the slapstick among an impresario and his cast and creative team who are preparing for a new opera for their theatre in Naples. Please come to see this enjoyable opera presented by the promising young singers.

NNT Opera Studio was founded in April 1998 as Japan's first ever theatre-affiliated training institute for those seeing a career in opera.
During the three-year period, trainee singers participate in a specially-designed programme, which includes coaching in languages, vocal techniques and acting, and are given an opportunity to appear on the stage of New National Theatre Tokyo three times a year.

This year, the students gave two concerts at Opera Palace and showed the fruit of their daily training in front of the audience.
As their final performance of the year and the first step to a professional artist, they will present Domenico Cimarosa's "L'Impresario in Angustie".

History
Premiere of this production: 30 November 1785, Teatro Nuovo, Naples

L'impresario in angustie is an operatic farsa in one act by composer Domenico Cimarosa with an Italian libretto by Giuseppe Maria Diodati. The opera premiered at the Teatro Nuovo in Naples, Italy in 1786.

Synopsis

The impresario of a theater (Don Cristobolo) is at the mercy of the pretensions of his first women (Dorina and Merlina), who also torture the poet (Don Perizonio) and the musician (Gelindo), intent on composing a new opera that will have to go on stage; he, who is copying music from other composers, protests at the noise produced by the ongoing controversy. The composer is also annoyed by the poet, author of the libretto of the opera in the composing phase entitled The internal convulsions of Pyrrhus against the hysterical affects of Andromache , and who speaks using amusing classical quotations. The scene centers on Don Perizionio and Merlina, who demands a good part from him, but the poet responds to his requests only with witty jokes.

In the second painting, after the quintet, two new characters enter, Fiordispina and her protector Strabinio, who, however, has a secondary role. Fiordispina also comes into conflict with the other two singers, always claiming the best parts, sumptuous stage clothes and rich rewards. All of these rivalries end due to the sudden bankruptcy of the entrepreneur.
