Programme
Overview
Experience the Romantic era in one captivating evening: Alpesh Chauhan leads Mendelssohn’s windswept Scottish Symphony, Beethoven’s dramatic Coriolan Overture, and Dvořák’s heartfelt Cello Concerto with virtuoso Johannes Moser.Immerse yourself in the sweeping passions of the Romantic era as the orchestra, led by rising British conductor Alpesh Chauhan, presents a vibrant programme woven from landscapes, folklore and human drama. The concert opens with Mendelssohn’s Third Symphony, a stirring musical journey through Scotland’s heathered glens and tempestuous skies; continues with Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, a powerful portrait of heroic struggle and inner conflict; and culminates in Dvořák’s Cello Concerto, a homesick testament to Bohemia’s melodic heart performed with radiant virtuosity by cellist Johannes Moser, hailed by critics as one of the finest young artists of his generation. Chauhan’s clear-sighted interpretations and Moser’s deeply expressive phrasing invite audiences to traverse highland mists, ancient legend and soulful longing in a single unforgettable evening.
Venue Info

Cadogan Hall - London
Location   5 Sloane Terrace

Cadogan Hall is one of London’s most distinguished concert venues, situated close to Sloane Square in the elegant Chelsea district. Known for its excellent acoustics, intimate atmosphere and diverse musical programme, it has become an important destination for classical music lovers and a regular stage for leading British and international performers.

The building has a fascinating history. Designed by architect Robert Fellowes Chisholm, it first opened in 1907 as the First Church of Christ, Scientist. Its distinctive architecture combines Byzantine-inspired features with an impressive tower, decorative stonework and beautiful stained-glass windows designed by Baron Arild Rosenkrantz, who had studied the art of stained glass while working with Tiffany in New York. The building is now Grade II listed.

After the church ceased to operate, the building was acquired by the Cadogan Estate in 2000 and carefully transformed into a concert hall. Following extensive restoration and acoustic improvements, Cadogan Hall reopened in June 2004. The conversion preserved many of its original architectural features while introducing modern performance facilities, creating an auditorium that combines historic character with contemporary comfort.

The main auditorium accommodates approximately 950 spectators, with steeply raked stalls and a gallery that provide excellent sightlines and a surprisingly close connection between performers and audience. Particular attention was paid to the acoustics during the renovation, including the installation of specially designed resonator tubes and acoustic insulation.

Cadogan Hall is especially associated with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, which has been resident at the venue since 2004. It is also an established venue for the BBC Proms Chamber Music Series, welcoming distinguished soloists, chamber ensembles and international orchestras. Its programme extends beyond classical music to include opera, choral performances, jazz, folk, world music, musical theatre and spoken-word events.

With its combination of historic architecture, carefully refined acoustics and a varied international programme, Cadogan Hall offers a distinctive alternative to London's larger concert venues. It is a place where the grandeur of a historic building meets the intimacy of a modern concert hall, creating an especially rewarding setting for experiencing live music.
