Complemented by Brahms’s moving Nänie and Rossini’s exhilarating William Tell Overture, this evening promises an unforgettable celebration of emotion and musical adventure.Tonight, the venerable chords of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony will unfold in a breathtaking odyssey of sorrow and jubilation. Under the masterful direction of Adam Hickox, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will weave a tapestry of sound that culminates in the triumphant Ode to Joy, joined in glorious unison by the City of London Choir and four exceptional soloists whose voices lift the spirit. Before the Ninth’s soaring finale, audiences will be transported by Brahms’s Nänie—a tender, elegiac lament that pays heartfelt tribute to his revered predecessor—and then whisked away by the exhilarating energy of Rossini’s William Tell Overture, with its vivid rhythms and sweeping melodies. This evening of timeless masterpieces celebrates the Romantic tradition in all its emotional depth and boundless adventure.
Venue Info

Cadogan Hall - London
Location   5 Sloane Terrace

Cadogan Hall is one of London’s most distinguished concert venues, situated close to Sloane Square in the elegant Chelsea district. Known for its excellent acoustics, intimate atmosphere and diverse musical programme, it has become an important destination for classical music lovers and a regular stage for leading British and international performers.

The building has a fascinating history. Designed by architect Robert Fellowes Chisholm, it first opened in 1907 as the First Church of Christ, Scientist. Its distinctive architecture combines Byzantine-inspired features with an impressive tower, decorative stonework and beautiful stained-glass windows designed by Baron Arild Rosenkrantz, who had studied the art of stained glass while working with Tiffany in New York. The building is now Grade II listed.

After the church ceased to operate, the building was acquired by the Cadogan Estate in 2000 and carefully transformed into a concert hall. Following extensive restoration and acoustic improvements, Cadogan Hall reopened in June 2004. The conversion preserved many of its original architectural features while introducing modern performance facilities, creating an auditorium that combines historic character with contemporary comfort.

The main auditorium accommodates approximately 950 spectators, with steeply raked stalls and a gallery that provide excellent sightlines and a surprisingly close connection between performers and audience. Particular attention was paid to the acoustics during the renovation, including the installation of specially designed resonator tubes and acoustic insulation.

Cadogan Hall is especially associated with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, which has been resident at the venue since 2004. It is also an established venue for the BBC Proms Chamber Music Series, welcoming distinguished soloists, chamber ensembles and international orchestras. Its programme extends beyond classical music to include opera, choral performances, jazz, folk, world music, musical theatre and spoken-word events.

With its combination of historic architecture, carefully refined acoustics and a varied international programme, Cadogan Hall offers a distinctive alternative to London's larger concert venues. It is a place where the grandeur of a historic building meets the intimacy of a modern concert hall, creating an especially rewarding setting for experiencing live music.
