Boltigen Church

Boltigen Church

The church of Boltigen, dedicated to St. Maurice, is first listed in the Episcopal Register of Lausanne (around 1280). The Church hosts concerts as part of the Gstaad Menuhin Festival.

n 1510 a new church was built, which probably replaced an originally smaller one. In 1675 a new building was built. But it was probably just an extension. When the inner walls were covered during the renovation of the nave in 1956, the seam to the extension was clearly visible. In July 1840, Boltigen Church was destroyed by fire. The fire destroyed the tower with the bells, burned out the interior of the church and destroyed valuable and rare stained glass. The fire also spread to the vicarage and burned the roof truss, destroying some ruffles and documents. The Burger-Rödel of all farmers were destroyed. That is why the community's burger toboggan, as it is in the archive today, had to be recreated from tradition. But it only lasts until about the middle of the 18th century. century back. Therefore, today there is a sensitive gap for family research in our community.

Boltigen Church is under cantonal and federal monument protection.
