Bernard Richter is a Swiss tenor. Trained at the School of Opera-Studio in Bienne, finalist at the International Competition of Paris (2001), he is present on the Swiss scenes (Bienne, Neuchâtel, Lucerne) and international (Leipzig, Dublin, Eisenstadt, Paris).

Bernard Richter begins his studies of lyric singing in Neuchâtel with Yves Senn. From 1996 to 1998, he is a member of the Opera Studio Suisse in Bienne. He made his professional debut at the Biel Opera, as well as on the stages of Neuchâtel and Lucerne. Finalist of the International Competition of Paris in 2001, he is engaged by the Opera of Leipzig during a season and interprets in particular its first Tamino in The magic flute.

He begins an international career in concert and oratorio and on the lyric scenes. His repertoire is broad, and he plays more than 25 roles: Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Rosillon (The Merry Widow), Fenton (The Merry Wives of Windsor), Alfred (The Bat), Almaviva (The Barber of Seville), Ernesto (Don Pasquale), Lindbergh (The flight of Lindbergh), the Marquis de Châteauneuf (Tsar und Zimmermann), Regista (Berio's Reverend in ascolto), Baron Kronthal (Der Wildschütz), the young boatman (Tristan und Isolde), Walther von der Vogelweide (Tannhäuser).

In concert, he performs in particular Francesco (Benvenuto Cellini) at the Leipzig Gewandhaus under the direction of Fabio Luisi. He is also Ferrando (Cosi Fan Tutte) at the Basel Opera and then Tamino (The Magic Flute) at the Dublin Opera House. He started in Austria as part of the prestigious Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt where he sang Count Errico (The Vera Costanza) under the direction of Adam Fischer, then he took Tamino at the Klagenfurt Opera. He made his Parisian debut in 2004 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in the roles of Pâris (La belle Hélène) and Fritz (The Grand Duchess) under the direction of Marc Minkowski and directed by Laurent Pelly.

In 2005, the Salzburg Festival hired him to sing Guidobaldo in Franz Schreker's Die Gezeichneten directed by Kent Nagano and directed by Nikolaus Lehnhoff. That same year, he made a tour of concerts in Salzburg and Spain with the musicians of the Louvre and Marc Minkowski in the title role Acis (Acis and Galatea). He was also heard in the title role Lucio Silla (Lucio Silla) for his debut with the Zurich Opera. In 2006, he sang in the Coronation Mass in Bologna under the direction of Sir Neville Marriner and then made his debut at the Paris Opera at Palais Garnier as Thespis (Platée). He sings under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt at the Styriarte Festival in Graz in the Scenes of Faust, performing Ariel and Pater Estaticus, then he is Hylas at the Paris Bastille Opera in Les Troyens directed by Wernicke and directed by Sylvain Cambreling. During the 2007-2008 season, she was heard at the Théâtre de Friborg in the title role of Idoménée, in Neuchâtel and Vevey in Faust (Mefistofeles), Brighella (Ariane in Naxos) at the Grand Théâtre de Genève under the direction of Jeffrey Tate, then Clotarco (Armida) at the Salzburg Festival under the direction of Ivor Bolton. In 2019 he will still sing the role of Idomeneus at the Scala Theater in Milan.
