Overview

"Viva la love!"

It was under this name that the new operetta by the Hungarian composer Imre Kalman, now known to everyone as "Silva", was conceived. Its premiere took place in 1915 on the stage of the Vienna Johann Strauss Theater and was triumphant: crowds of spectators literally stormed the box office! Then, for two years in a row, the performance was performed daily with full halls, even despite the terrible events of the First World War.

More than a hundred years have passed since the premiere of "Silva", but the story of the triumph of love over class prejudices, written with Kalman's inherent melodic talent, still remains the pearl of the operetta genre. The name of the play changed, the plot was repeatedly redrawn. Of course, the geography of productions was also expanding, and now we can admit that "Silva" really became the No. 1 operetta on the world stage. Her melodies seem to come to us in childhood and accompany us throughout life: Silva's famous weekend aria "Hey-ya!" to the tune of the incendiary Hungarian chardash, the exciting love duet "Do you remember?", the temperamental "Particle of the devil", playful couplets "You can't live without women in the world", magnificent march ensemble "Cabaret Beauties"…

The play has never left the poster of the Belarusian State Academic Musical Theater for a long time. On the stage of the Belarusian State Academic Musical Theater, "Silva" has already experienced four productions: 1972 — directed by V. Verbovskaya, 1986 — directed by V. Tsyupa, 2003 (under the title "Queen of Chardash") — directed by B. Vtorov and, finally, 2011 — in the interpretation of Susanna Tsiryuk.

In her reading, the "world of the wings", cabaret, variety show and cafe, where there is no boundary between theatrical performance and real life, is presented as vividly and prominently as possible. Here, love is a game that all the participants of the performance enthusiastically play, and life and the eternal celebration of the theater are fused together.
