Overview

"Die Fledermaus" by I. Strauss is one of the most perfect works of musical theater. Every number, every beat of this composition is full of humor and irony, reveal the comicality of a particular situation. The musical score is based on a libretto by K.Hafner and R. Genet based on the vaudeville by L.Galevi and A. Melyak in a new edition by V. Neff. The intrigue of the operetta is extremely entertaining, and includes elements of everyday comedy (first act), masquerade ball (second act) and buffoonery (third act). The music is dominated by cheerfulness, lyrical flavor, the element of dance, romantic and festive-upbeat atmosphere.

Johann Strauss-son, the greatest composer of Austrian operetta, turned to the operetta genre, being already a well-known author of symphonic dance music. He combined dance rhythms (Viennese waltz, polka, quadrille, chardash) with everyday song music of Austria. A peculiar combination of Viennese waltz and Hungarian chardash after I. Strauss became characteristic of the entire Austrian national school of operetta. The history of world operetta includes his "Die Fledermaus" (1874), "The Merry Widow" (1881), "A Night in Venice" (1883), "The Gypsy Baron" (1885).

... Heinrich Eisenstein informs his wife that his incompetent lawyer has lost a lawsuit in the case of a shot grouse, and he is forced to go to prison. Rosalind is desperate: how to let your beloved husband go to prison, in what kind of society will he be there? Falk, a friend of Eisenstein, appears. Falk calms Rosalind, and at the same time persuades Henry to go to the masquerade ball to Prince Orlovsky. After all, you can go to jail in the morning!
The upset woman stays at home alone. Suddenly, Alfred comes in love with her. In the midst of explaining the characters, the director of the Frank prison appears. He takes Alfred for Heinrich Eisenstein, and is ready to escort him to prison. In order not to compromise Rosalind, the young man pretends to be her husband and leaves with Frank.
Rosalind is at a loss. Her husband and Falk deceived her, and instead of prison they went to a masquerade ball. The maid Adele also went there, having stolen the mistress's new dress. What will the angry heroine do?
