The National Ballet of Spain (BNE) is a dance company founded in 1978 publicly owned, dependent as a creative organ of the National Institute of the Performing Arts and Music (INAEM) and with an outstanding number of national and international annual tours that They ensure their worldwide projection. Its fundamental task is to preserve and spread the rich Spanish choreographic heritage as an intangible heritage that is a sign of cultural identity, picking up its stylistic plurality and traditions, represented by its different forms: academic, stylized, folklore, bowling and flamenco.
In addition, the BNE also aims to use music by Spanish composers, especially spreading dance music from composers of the first half of the twentieth century such as Falla, Albéniz, Hallfter and much more.
For the fulfillment of its purposes, the National Ballet of Spain maintains and updates its repertoire, recovering historical choreographies of great choreographers and dancers, and inviting both young dance values and choreographers who have revolutionized the genre. It also carries out pedagogical activities and the creation of new audiences and promotes its national and international projection in a framework of full artistic and creative autonomy.
Its offices and rehearsal rooms are located on Paseo de la Chopera, 4, next to the Crystal Palace of the Arganzuela Park in Madrid (Spain). The idea of providing the institution with a Dance Theater as a permanent venue for its productions is currently under discussion, which it lacks. The INAEM (National Institute of Performing Arts and Music) provisionally establishes the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid with that function.
