The Salzburg Bach Choir is a choir ensemble from the city of Salzburg.

The Salzburg Bach Choir is one of Austria's leading vocal ensembles. His repertoire includes both chamber music as well as large choral orchestral works through all eras of music history. The choir is characterized by a high degree of flexibility both in cast and in its overall choral sound.

History
Founded in 1983 by Albert Hartinger as the choir of the Salzburg Bach Society, the Salzburg Bach Choir has been working independently since 1988. In 1988, the foundation was also established as a non-profit association. Under his first Artistic Director Howard Arman, the choir established itself as an internationally recognized and sought after orchestra. Since 2003 Alois Glaßner is Artistic Director of the Salzburg Bach Choir.

On February 7, 2009, the choir held a festive concert in the Carabinierisaal of the residence for its 25th anniversary.

Performances
The Salzburg Bach Choir performs regularly at the International Mozart Week, the Salzburg Festival and the Salzburg Cultural Association and has been a guest of the Salzburg Bach Society on several occasions - most recently at the "International Bach Festival 2008 Salzburg". Jazz 2005 saw the arrival of jazz legend Dave Brubeck. In addition, the choir is often invited to guest performances in other European countries. These took him to Greece (Megaron Athens), Romania (Enescu Festival Bucharest), to the Netherlands (Concertgebouw Amsterdam), to Germany (eg Konzerthaus Berlin, Händelfestspiele Halle and Göttingen, Musikfest Bremen, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Rosengarten Mannheim ), to Turkey (Cultural Center Lütfi-Kirdar Istanbul), to Spain (Cervantes Theater and Cathedral Málaga), France, Italy and Switzerland. In March 2014, the choir performed for the first time as a guest of the Tonkünstlerorchester Niederösterreich in the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein and in the Festspielhaus St. Pölten. In 2016, the Bach Choir was heard for the first time at the Easter Concert Klosterneuburg with Handel's Messiah together with the Bach Consort Vienna under Rubén Dubrovsky. This concert and the Easter concert Klosterneuburg 2017 with music by Antonio Vivaldi was broadcast internationally as a TV production.

Regular fixtures in the concert year of the Salzburg Bach Choir are the traditional performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Mass in C minor KV 417 during the Salzburg Festival and his Requiem in D minor KV 626 as part of the Festival Dialogues of the International Mozarteum Foundation for Mozart's Death on 5 May . December. As part of this festival, the choir has been commissioned several times with performances - some premieres - of contemporary works. As part of the International Mozart Week, the Salzburg Bach Choir participated in performances of Mozart's Davide penitente KV 469 2015 and Requiem in D minor KV 626 2017 together with the Musiciens du Louvre and the Académie équestre du Versailles.

Since 2010, the Salzburg Bach Choir has been heard every autumn in several concerts of the series Raiffeisen Classical Vocal a cappella in the province of Salzburg. An annually changing theme features works from all eras of music to those of living composers. In December 2014, the Salzburger Bach Choir presented on the occasion of its 30th anniversary the CD "Father noster", which emerged from this series.

Artistic cooperations
The Salzburg Bach Choir performs regularly with internationally renowned orchestras: Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, Camerata Salzburg, Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna or Les Musiciens du Louvre Grenoble. The choir has worked with such conductors as Sir Roger Norrington, Leopold Hager, Michael Gielen, Hans Graf, Marc Minkowski, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Trevor Pinnock, Ingo Metzmacher, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Helmuth Rilling and Louis Langrée. A special combination consists of a large number of performances and some CD recordings to Ivor Bolton and the Mozarteum Orchestra.
