Achim Freyer, born in 1934, studied painting and utility graphics before becoming a master student of Bertolt Brecht, from the late 60s also worked as a stage and costume designer and from 1973 as a director created his own drama and opera productions. With the Freyer Ensemble, which he founded in 1988, he developed a completely independent theatre language and produced numerous pieces of his own.
