Festival Verdi 2022 in Parma and Busseto returned to its traditional style with as much gusto and enthusiasm as ever: three staged operas, La forza del destino, Simon Boccanegra, Il trovatore at Teatro Regio di Parma and Teatro Magnani di Fidenza, plus the Messa da Requiem and Quattro pezzi sacri, gala concerts and other events featuring internationally renowned conductors, directors, artists and musicians, all to celebrate the Land of Verdi and Toscanini.
La forza del destino, Simon Boccanegra, Il Trovatore, Messa da Requiem, Quattro pezzi sacri: the works by Verdi was performed at the Festival Verdi 2022.
Conductors Roberto Abbado, Riccardo Frizza, Sebastiano Rolli, Michele Mariotti and Daniele Gatti took to the podiums at Teatro Regio di Parma and Teatro Magnani di Fidenza to lead internationally renowned artists and the prestigious orchestras of Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Fondazione Arturo Toscanini, Rai and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
As always, gala concerts, recitals, talks and other events completed Festival Verdi’s magical atmosphere, which the audience could soak up in the unique and wonderful spaces around Parma, Italian Capital of Culture and UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, home of great art, fine music and phenomenal food.
While admiring incredible works of art, savouring the sublime food and typical products that have made the Food Valley famous all over the world and listening to the music of the Grande Maestro you will discover the true spirit of Parma. The tour explores the Land of Verdi – Busseto, Roncole Verdi and Sant'Agata – where the maestro was born, lived and honed his art, and the region of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza, strewn with fascinating fortresses and castles.
About the Festival Verdi
The Verdi Festival is an important Italian opera music festival. It is held every year in October (the month of Verdi 's birth ) in Parma, Busseto and in Verdi's lands.
The Festival was founded in the mid -1980s and ran until 1993 . In 2001 it was reintroduced on the occasion of the National Celebrations of the Verdian Centenary and proposed annually in the late spring period; since 2007 it takes place in October.
The Festival does not consist only of operas but also of concerts, recitals and other genres of entertainment which take place in Reggio Emilia, Fidenza, Fontanellato, Fontevivo, Torrechiara, Genoa and Parma and Busseto themselves.
The traditional venue for the Verdi Festival is several famous stage venues - the Royal Theater of Parma, the Giuseppe Verdi Theater in Busseto and the Farnese Theater in Parma. The festival program includes the most prestigious concerts and events dedicated to the anniversary of Verdi's birth. And on each of the evenings, new and classic versions of such famous operas by maestro Verdi as "Aida", "Othello", "Falstaff", "La Traviata", "Rigoletto", "Macbeth", "Joan of Arc" and "Il trovatore".
In addition, in Parma itself, for the entertainment of numerous lovers of classical music, walking routes and tours of historical places related to the life and work of the musician are specially organized.
